Working in isolation

Well, it has been a very strange few weeks for all, working in isolation due to the current Covid-19 lockdown process. On the positive, the project has submitted a new Erasmus application for phase two of the prison project.

This new application looks at:

1). An evaluation and analysis of the full extent of the impact of Augmented Reality use on Offender Learners and progression, involved in the initial pilot project. - How AR has been used to improve the teaching, learning and assessment in offender institutions - Has AR had an impact on stability, and a reduction of self-harm and deaths in custody - Has AR improved employment opportunities and reduction in re-offending.

2) Developing a series of Augmented Reality (AR) resources to support and prepare offender learners for life on the outside and release back into society. We aim to develop resources to support offender learners, taking into consideration their language needs and all learners in scope of the project will be supported by prison officers and education specialists, so that they: - understand the use and benefits of AR; - understand the use of technology and accessing the required information to make full use of the resource types to meet the needs of the specific learning types where applicable; - have access to technology support and our vast expertise in augmented reality; - provide alternative methods for delivery of and access to learning, including personalised and targeted learning needs - understand the full impact of use and areas of benefit - support learners to prepare for life on the outside up release back into society.

With regards the project, we have contacted the National Agency for clarification on the current lockdown process and our project timescales, given the fact we are unable to go to the prison institutions for the face to face work. We hope that we can have some extension to our current project, and awaiting their updated response on this.

In the meantime, partners will continue to develop and adapt the AR resources for 'Output 5: Prison Induction Package'. The partners will choose which resources would be useful to each partner institution for development or adaptation.
