The project was discussed at a security working group meeting this week and the camera on the mobile devices posed a challenge. The outcome was to see if there is any way to make it so the camera is ‘see through’ and does not record images either static or video, then the project has a good chance of getting it through the assessment validation process. They don’t allow any images to be recorded and shared that show the infrastructure of the prison or prisons faces.
I had discussions with Apple Support and if the camera is disabled or restricted from use, the Zappar AR App will not function as it needs the camera to scan. I have checked through the Zappar app and it cannot trigger recording in the App. It only scans the surroundings looking for the Zap code which will trigger the content from the Zappar server.
We have been looking at wireless but have been told by security team to put it on hold until November '19, as HMPPS are looking at this. We are not sure yet what date HMPPS Hewell will have a leased line in at the Grange (the learning centre for the young offender learners).
At a previous security meeting, the possible solution of a hot spot for locked down access, with only access to the Zappar server was key.
If wireless access development is on hold until Nov '19, that will be ok for the project timescales. Most important process in the first instance is to get the locked down of the devices and document this, so we have something for the project partners in Europe to pilot and have guidance from the security aspects we work on and offer as a recommended solution. In the meantime, the project can concentrate on the AR resource development per partner pilot for each country.
