Project awareness and dissemination events

This week has been great to disseminate the project in a number of ways and still more to come.

The project Coordinator submitted a paper to present a workshop for the European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris). Initially it was to be a face to face conference, but with the Covi-19 and lockdown will now be an online event delivery during September. We will know if we have been successful in June!

On Monday 18 May, HMPPS project partner and I delivered an online presentation to the Maths, English and Digital Literacies Steering Group meeting, supporting prison education. We had 22 delegates and it was well received. From that we have been invited to present a webinar for the Prisoners’ Education Trust on Wednesday 24 June.

The presentation included the background to the project, objectives, benefits and progress. It also demonstrated the range of resources and the process involved for both prison staff and learners to use in learning situations.

It was important that delegates understood the practical and varied uses of the resources for offender learners, no matter if at the start or nearing the end of their sentence.

For first time offenders, getting past the first few days is the hardest part. The first resources cover ‘Prison Induction’ process.

• Great benefit to ‘the learner’ & aims to put them at ease, prison information direct from fellow prisoners & to show that they are not alone.

• AR can provide learners with a more interactive way of learning, facilitate research, activities, instruction and information.

• A series of AR posters and learning cards that act as a trigger to an individual resource, video, or multiple resources giving information on a range of instructional and skills based topics that will be engaging and interesting.

The project team are looking forward to getting back to face to face interactions with learners, post-lockdown, for the individual partner pilots at the institutions’ across the UK, Romania and Belgium.
